The Otago Volts have a new captain this domestic season, as BLACKCAP Dean Foxcroft leads his team against Northern Districts this weekend.
Foxcroft said he is relishing the opportunity to lead the Volts this season.
“It’s a proud feeling (named as captain), especially taking over from Hamish. He has built a good foundation for the team, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the players, coaches and support staff”, Foxcroft said.
Foxcroft last season was named domestic player of the year and capped off a stellar campaign with his first call-up into the One Day and T20 BLACKCAPS squads.
Foxcroft's first match as Volts captain will be to challenge Northen Districts at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Friday.
Included in the 12-man squad travelling north is two new all-rounders Luke Georgeson and Jamal Todd.
Georgeson, who was recruited from the Wellington Firebirds in the off-season, could be set for his Otago first-class debut in Hamilton. While Todd, who has developed his skills through the Otago pathways programme, could be a surprise inclusion into the first team on Friday.
The Volts will be without experienced opener Hamish Rutherford and seamer Travis Muller who are both unavailable for selection.
The Volts next week will challenge Canterbury in Christchurch before they return home to University of Otago Oval to take on Central Stags on November 6th.
