Otago Cricket Association are proud to announce that Cricket Development Officer (CDO) / Marketing and Communications lead, Will Kindley, finished up with OCA last Friday 29 July. Will leaves to take up a new role as Community Marketing and Communications lead at New Zealand Cricket after close to 5 years’ service at OCA.

Kindley began his career with Otago Cricket in 2017 as a Cricket Development Officer in both Southland and Dunedin. After completing his bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications, Kindley took on a split role as a Dunedin CDO and Marketing and Communications lead for Otago Cricket. This role allowed Kindley to pursue his passions for Marketing and immerse himself in the professional environment of our Otago Volts and Sparks. Kindley said “ever since I can remember I have been an Otago Volts & Sparks fan, and to be able to spend 5 awesome years here has been very special.”

In his CDO role, Will has played a major part in shaping and developing our Junior and Youth cricketers across the region. This includes;

• Implementation of Boys Blast Cricket Programme for Boys in years 3-6 in Dunedin, Taieri and South Otago.
• Lead the Coach Development space in Dunedin as well as coaching several representative age group teams.
• Lead the Dunedin boys Age-Group programming and player development.
• Most recently lead the restructure of Otago Cricket Festivals and Tournaments to align with Otago Cricket Coach Development and Balance is Better philosophies.

GM Community Cricket, Andrew Petrie commented “Will’s departure will be a big loss after close 5 years of working in the community game for Otago Cricket. His new role at NZC will enable him to further develop, his two passions of Marketing and Communications and community Cricket. We will be excited to see his progression at NZC and look forward to working with him in a new capacity.”

Reflecting on his time at Otago Cricket, Kindley said “I can honestly say I have loved every minute and am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given. I must thank all of my colleagues, the players, coaches, volunteers, and everyone else at Otago Cricket Association for the great memories and lifelong friendships.”

Although we are sad to see Will go, we are very excited for his future with New Zealand Cricket and wish him the best of luck.
